Google Ranking 

  Google PageRank is occasionally referred to as "PR", this determines a page's ranking within search engine results or it's popularity in the internet. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other. The more votes, the more important the page must be. The importance of the page that you are linking to determines how important the vote is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated. PageRank isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.

  Google does not count all links. They filter out links from known link farms can cause a site to be penalized by Google. Webmasters should review each website thoroughly before posting links from a site that can harm their pagerank. Outbound links can be harmful if they link to a penalized site. Webmasters cannot control which sites link to their websites, but they can control which sites they link out to.  So use caution when picking sites to link to.
